WELCOME to the 1st Annual URBAN CONTEMPORARY DANCE FESTIVAL—Baltimore, hosted by the Coppin State University Dance Program on Friday September 30 - Sunday, October 2, 2011.

Master classes will be taught throughout the weekend by accomplished guest master teachers. Classes offered include Hip Hop, Line Dance, Contemporary Dance, Afro-Cuban Dance and Drum Classes. Featured instructors include Tweetie (Hip Hop), host of MTV's "Dances From Tha Hood" on MTV On Demand and Hip Hop instructor to Ms. Gayle King and featured guest hip-hip choreographer on The Oprah Winfrey Show, has worked with numerous artists such as Jay-Z ,Ciara, LL Cool J, Fergie, and Nelly. Emily Berry (Afro-Cuban Dance), who joins us from New York City where she is the artistic director of the B3W dance company, has extensive experience teaching and performing Afro-Cuban dance. Wanjiru Kamuyu (Contemporary Dance), current dance captain and performer with Bill T. Jones broadway hit FELA!, Kamayu has danced internationally with Lion King, Urban Bush Women and Sean Curran, among others. Lizzy Washington (Contemporary Dance) is a current dancer with Alvin Ailey Dance Company II. Lorenzo Evans (Hip-Hop, Step) is an entertainment industry choreographer who is the owner of goLo LLC. Lorenzo has with worked with Grammy-Nominated artists Chuck Brown and Jill Scott. He is currently choreographing for Grammy winner Fantasia Barrino. Ronnie Goode (Line Dance) has been line dancing for 14 years. She has performed at countless festivals including the American African Festival. Ronnie has also performed on stage with Fantasia, an American Idol winner.

The weekend will also feature the Urban Movers Dance Showcase on Saturday, October 1 at 7:30. The event will honor the legacies of two founders of dance programs at Baltimore HBCUs: Dr. Edna Simmons (Coppin State University) and Dr. Iantha Tucker (Morgan State University).
